1. What Kit & Ledger is

Kit & Ledger is an organisational tool. It looks up your company on the Companies House register, asks you a short set of questions about your business, and uses that information to build a personalised calendar of the UK compliance obligations that are likely to apply to you, with reminder emails ahead of each deadline.

Kit & Ledger does not provide legal, tax or accounting advice, and using it does not create an adviser-client relationship of any kind. It is not a substitute for professional advice, and it is not a substitute for checking directly with the relevant authority — Companies House, HMRC, The Pensions Regulator, or the Information Commissioner's Office — where something matters to your business.

2. What our results are, and aren't

Every deadline we show you is either:

  • Read directly from an official source (for example, Companies House's own published confirmation-statement or accounts due date), shown to you unchanged; or
  • Calculated from a rule we have verified against primary official sources, applied to the company information we hold and the answers you've given us; or
  • Marked "Check required" — meaning we do not have enough confirmed information, or our verification of the underlying rule for your specific situation is not yet complete, to show you a deadline with confidence.

We would rather tell you a deadline needs checking than show you a confident-looking date that might be wrong. See our Source & Verification Framework for how we verify the rules behind these calculations.

3. Coverage is not universal

Kit & Ledger V1 is built and verified for UK owner-managed private limited companies with approximately 0–10 employees, in mainstream registered business activities. If your company is flagged with a limited-coverage notice — because of its legal form, its registered SIC code, or an answer you've given us — treat our obligation list as incomplete for your situation, not as confirmation you have no other obligations. Regulated sectors, larger or more complex businesses, and company types outside our supported range (such as PLCs or LLPs) should seek advice specific to their circumstances.

Even within our supported range, we cannot guarantee that every obligation that could ever apply to your business is covered by our current rule set, or that a newly introduced or amended obligation has already been added.

4. Accuracy depends on the information you give us

Many of the deadlines we calculate depend on facts you tell us — for example, whether you're VAT-registered, whether you employ staff, or your accounting period. We use exactly what you tell us; we do not independently verify self-declared answers unless a specific rule says otherwise. If an answer you gave us changes or was wrong, your results can be wrong until you update it. Company information sourced directly from Companies House (company status, registered office, filing deadlines already published there, and similar) is refreshed periodically, but there can be a short delay between something changing on the public register and it being reflected in your dashboard.

5. The law changes

UK tax, company and pensions law changes. We maintain and periodically re-verify our rule content against primary sources, but we cannot guarantee that a change in legislation, HMRC practice, or Companies House process is reflected in Kit & Ledger the moment it takes effect.

6. No liability for missed or misunderstood obligations

Kit & Ledger is an organisational aid. Meeting your company's actual legal and regulatory obligations remains your responsibility. We are not liable for any penalty, fine, or other consequence arising from a missed or misunderstood obligation, whether or not our service showed, omitted, or miscalculated a deadline related to it — see the Limitation of Liability section of our Terms of Service, which this Disclaimer is part of.

7. If something looks wrong

If a deadline, obligation, or piece of company information shown to you looks incorrect, please tell us at hello@kitandledger.com or use our contact form. We treat every report seriously and will investigate against our primary sources — but please also independently confirm anything time-sensitive directly with the relevant authority in the meantime, rather than relying on us to catch it first.
